Seers Kidnapped - But Mary Triumphs!
Laurence D. Behr, Executive Director
Aug 13, 2003

REMINDER! Only 11 days left until Sunday, August 24, and our FREE 2d Annual Celebration of the Culture of Life and Civilization of Love! Come to Buffalo for a beautiful Sunday afternoon of great worship music, and talks about Our Lady by Judge Dan Lynch, and Bryan Thatcher M.D. See www.archoftriumph.org/celebration.html for full details!

*******************************
ON THIS DAY, AUGUST 13, in 1917, the local administrator kidnapped the three Fatima seers, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia, in an attempt to stop Our Lady from appearing. He failed! Witnesses among the 15,000 gathered at the Cova da Iria that day, reported marvelous occurrences there despite the seers’ absence, including that two lanterns attached to the arch built above the holm oak where Our Lady appeared, seemed to be made of gold.

The people of Fatima rightly sensed the need to build a triumphal arch to honor Our Lady’s visits—and in August, the month of Mary’s most “triumphant” feasts (we honor her Assumption on August 15, and her Queenship on August 22—which in 1917 was the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary), that same arch was miraculously marked with golden touches.

In 1947, 30 years later, Our Lady of Fatima triumphantly entered America for the first time, through the Buffalo Diocese, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8. For the faithful, the Pilgrim Virgin Statue’s presence was like having Our Lady herself amongst us. One newspaper reported that it was "the greatest event of the year." Bishop O'Hara placed a golden crown on Mary's head, and she was enthroned on a special altar in Buffalo’s St. Joseph Cathedral.

For the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart,

Laurence D. Behr,
Executive Director
