WHEREAS,
the Knights
of Columbus are dedicated to the honor of Our Lady and
Queen, Mary Most Holy, Patroness of the United States
of America under Her glorious title, the Immaculate
Conception; and
WHEREAS, Mary,
the Mother of all Christians and indeed, of all peoples,
is the Patroness also of the unborn victims of abortion,
under Her glorious title, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and
has been implored under such title by our beloved Pontiff,
His Holiness Pope John Paul II, to bring through Her
intercession a new birth of life and hope to the continents
of the Americas; and
WHEREAS, the
Knights of Columbus are dedicated also to ending the
slaughter of the innocent unborn, through prayer, sacrifice,
and education of the public concerning the manifold
evils of such malignant practice; and
WHEREAS, the
Knights of Columbus believe with the whole Church that,
at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917, Almighty God revealed
through Mary His desire to establish devotion to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world, as its way to
true peace and of return to the following of His Only
Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and further, that He would
cause the world to enjoy an era of peace through what
has come to be known, as the Triumph of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary; and
WHEREAS, the great value of majestic monuments and glorious
shrines for influencing and shaping the culture of nations
and of the world is well-known and undeniable, and the
world acknowledges but one monumental architectural
construct for commemorating great triumphal events,
that being the triumphal arch; and
WHEREAS, the
coming Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Who
is Queen of Angels, of Martyrs, of Saints, of Patriarchs
and indeed, of the Universe, and the Gate of Heaven
and House of Gold, the very Ark of the Covenant, merits
commemoration by a triumphal arch grander and more glorious
than any previously erected by human ingenuity to memorialize
mere worldly conquests; and
WHEREAS, the
Arch of Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and
International Shrine of the Holy Innocents, proposed
to be built in Buffalo, New York, known as the Queen
City and having a predominantly Catholic population,
and a favorable location in many respects, will indeed
be such a supremely grand and glorious monument, and
also has won the approbation of many worthy Catholic
leaders of the Pro-Life Movement; and
WHEREAS, the
Knights of Columbus have desired always above all things
to do the holy will of God our Almighty Father, and,
in the spirit of our beloved Founder, Father Michael
J. McGivney, always to adjure America and the world
to seek His will in imitating the virtues of purity,
faithfulness and obedience to God’s will, perfectly
exemplified by Mary Our Queen; and
WHEREAS, the Arch of Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
and International Shrine of the Holy Innocents will
be a constant inspiration for all to admire and to emulate
Mary’s virtues, and also and rightly has been described
as truly in keeping with the great hopes of the new
millennium for a New Springtime of the Church, and for
the building of the Culture of Life and Civilization
of Love, so ardently predicted and embraced by our beloved
Pontiff, who also, toward accomplishing such purposes,
has entrusted the new millennium to Mary on October
8, 2000; upon due consideration by ____________________________
